Nathan Fillion

Nathan was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and is a distant relative of the Civil War general Jubal Early. Before becoming an actor, Nathan wanted to follow in the family profession and become an English teacher. Nathan, however, followed the course of acting in local theatre and soon found himself cast in daytime soap, One Life to Live where he stayed for three years playing the role of Joe Buchanan. Nathan then moved into comedy, playing Jonny on ABC's Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place and got his film break playing 'the wrong Private Ryan' in Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan.

Despite this Nathan found it difficult to get lead roles, until Joss Whedon gave the opportunity to play Captain Mal Reynolds in his new TV series, Firefly. When this was cancelled, Joss gave him another opportunity, this time to play a bad guy in his more successful series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

But Captain Reynolds' story wasn't over yet and this time Nathan got his biggest opportunity yet, to continue the story of Firefly on thie big screen with the action-adventure Serenity. Although the film was by no means a blockbuster, it was highly critically acclaimed and the role has propelled Nathan's career along nicely. He has since starred in 3 films, Slither, White Noise: The Light and Waitress and one further doomed TV show, Drive and had guest spots on Justice League: Unlimited and Lost. He can currently be seen in a reccuring role as Adam Mayfair in Desperate Housewives and is has another film due out next year, Trucker.

Trivia

Although Nathan ended up playing evil priest Caleb in Buffy the Vampire Slayer he originally auditioned for the role of Angel when the show first aired in 1997.
