3 April 2008: Nathan Fillion - Repo Brothers

Nathan Fillion

Nathan Fillion recently attended the Cut Festival and revealed to fans that a pilot he had written some time ago had been picked up by ABC. Repo Brothers was inspired by an incident he shared with Alan Tudyk while he was trying to pick a lock in his living room. Nathan spoke of this last year to SFX, here's what he said then:

"After seeing a documentary on TV about how a key works in a tumbler, I learned how to pick locks. And Alan Tudyk was watching me try to pick a lock in my living room, suddenly he looked around and whispered, ‘You gotta hurry with that. Somebody might be coming.’ I started laughing, but he kept it up: ‘I’m just saying, come on! You said you were good at this! We can’t stand out here forever…’ And we were sitting there playing with this and he had me laughing so much I was crying. I thought: I’ve got to write a story about this. Who would have this relationship? They’d have to be brothers at least, somehow involved in breaking in. I wrote a pilot and couple of episodes of a show about brothers who become repo men."

Representatives of the Phoenix Comic Con where Nathan was to appear with his friend, PJ Haarsman in support of his children's charity, Kids Need to Read, posted the following on Whedonesque:

"It is true that Nathan will not be attending the Phoenix Comicon. Due to a mix-up of dates, Nathan was double-booked for both cons. It is important to note that Nathan offered to keep the gentleman’s agreement he made with PJ Haarsma and Matt Solberg when he discovered the conflicting dates, but PJ refused to put his good friend in the position of breaking his signed contract with the FX Show. Everyone involved is deeply disappointed and we apologize for letting the convention attendees down.

PJ Haarsma and Kids Need to Read will still be attending the convention and we hope to meet all of you who are going. We’ll have auctions, give away free buttons and we’ll still have our panel without our star. We may not have an overflow audience, but we’ll have fun all the same. Please stop by to learn more about our organization’s efforts to help foster a love for reading among young children.
